Our Cost Structure
Deciding whether you should hire a lawyer can be a daunting task. Often, you need the help of a personal injury lawyer because you are dealing with a serious accident or a major, life-altering incident. We provide a free case evaluation to everyone considering hiring a personal injury lawyer. We realize you have enough things on your mind. Worrying about hiring a lawyer should not be one of them.
The Slechter Law Firm works on a contingency fee basis. This means court costs and case expenses will only be due if we win or settle your case. You pay nothing unless you win your case. This approach allows you to not worry about hourly legal fees and focus on the big picture: getting you the money you rightfully deserve.
Each legal case is unique – just like you. That is why we take an individualized approach with every potential client. We do not tell you what you need to do. We listen to you and work with you to design a legal strategy that fits your specific needs. You are in control. We are simply here to serve you.
What Is a Contingency Fee?
How much can you afford to spend for an experienced, knowledgeable personal injury lawyer? If you have asked yourself this question, you’ve contacted the wrong lawyer. At the Slechter Law Firm, we do not charge people by the hour regardless of whether or not they win or lose. You only pay us if you win and get paid.
This form of payment is known as a “contingency fee.” If you win, you will be responsible for court costs and expenses. By working with people this way, you don’t have to worry about whether you can afford to hire a lawyer to fight for your rights.
We don’t get paid unless you get paid. On personal injury cases, our fee is 33.33 percent of the gross amount we recover on cases settled prior to litigation, and 40 percent on cases we resolve after a lawsuit has been filed.
In workers' compensation cases, the fee we can charge is regulated. By law, we can only charge 20 percent for the first $25,000 we recover, 15 percent of the next $10,000 we recover, and 5 percent of the remainder, with the fee capped at $18,000. No strings attached, no gimmicks. If you don’t win, you don’t pay. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
By working on a “contingency contract,” we are also able to pay upfront for expenses associated with building a case on your behalf. A lot of time and money can be spent obtaining records, hiring experts, filing suits, taking depositions, and creating exhibits. We pay for these expenses in advance. If we successfully litigate your case and obtain a settlement, we reimburse ourselves. If we don’t recover any money on your behalf, you owe us nothing.
Mounting a strong legal case on your behalf should be your only concern. You should not be worrying about whether you can afford to hire a lawyer, especially if you sustained a serious injury in an auto accident or any other type of injury.
